Climate Changes and Its Effects

There is a lot of debate on climate change, is it real? Are we causing it? While we do not want to weigh in on the politics of the weather, there is no doubt that things are changing. In our area, that is felt most significantly in our current drought condition. We are in our third year in the Bay Area of below normal rainfall, and while the winter was beautiful and mild, it’s going to cause problems. According to the EPA, there are 30 indicators that represent the changes in climate that we are seeing globally. One of those indicators is global temperature and as you can see in their figure below, it is going up.

While hot weather is great for those of us in the HVAC business, increased temperatures are causing things like the Bay Area drought, floods in Asia, and strong winter storms in the Northeast. It seems counterintuitive that “global warming” would be responsible for an increase in blizzards, but the truth is that the melting of snow in Antarctica and the change in temperature from a lack of solar reflection disrupts the jet stream and allows Arctic air to seep in to areas like the Northeast United States and Britain. Though these extreme temperatures create business for us, we are doing our part to mitigate any environmental damage.Through programs like government rebates, installing energy efficient equipment and educating our customers about how to save money and the environment, we try to contribute to the solution rather than the problem.
