HERO Financing for HVAC in Sonoma, Napa, San Rafael, and Marin County

On November 9th we blogged about HERO (Home Energy Renovation Opportunity) financing, a financing option for energy efficient products related to HVAC in Sonoma, Napa, San Rafael, Marin County, and select other cities and counties in California. We told you that it’s free to apply for both residential and commercial customers and that the low interest payments are included in your property tax bills. Some people had more questions, though, and so we’re back to answer those today.

Answers to Questions about HERO Financing for HVAC in Sonoma, Napa, San Rafael, and Marin County

Does HERO Cover 100% of the Cost?

Yes. HERO financing covers 100% of the cost of your new HVAC system and its installation. Good question!

How Will Having a HERO Payment in my Property Tax Bill Affect Selling my House?

The prospect of selling your house down the line should not deter you from applying for HERO financing. If you sell your property, you can either pay off your HERO payment or transfer the payment to the buyer. If you pay it off, there are no prepayment penalties. If you plan to transfer it, you or your listing agent should disclose that there is an additional tax assessment on the property tax bill. You can also provide information about how the energy savings offsets the assessment.

Who Can Be a HERO Contractor?

A heating and air conditioning contractor can’t just decide to offer HERO financing. They have to register with the HERO Program. They must have a valid California State Business License and adhere to the HERO Program’s consumer protection policies.
